After more than 35 years, a Dubuque nonprofit serving area students will sell its original building. Officials with St. Mark Youth Enrichment said the sale of the facility at 1201 Locust St. will help the organization direct more resources toward youth programs and advance its efforts to open an early childhood center. Executive Director Dawn Cogan said the nonprofit has called the Locust Street building home since 1988, when St. Mark Lutheran Church disbanded its congregation and launched what then was called St. Mark Community Center. St. Mark Youth Enrichment now serves hundreds of students through its after-school and summer programs across Dubuque County. The group also provides school supplies for more than 3,000 local students through its annual Apples for Students initiative.
