A man has been sentenced to two years in prison after police said he led officers on a chase in downtown Dubuque. 54-year-old Murrell L. Griffin of Dubuque, recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to eluding and driving while barred. The charges stem from an incident on March 20 when court documents state that officers attempted to stop Griffin’s vehicle after a review of his driver’s license indicated that he had “a current driving status of barred for habitual offender.” When an officer informed Griffin he was going to be placed under arrest, Griffin drove away at “a high rate of speed” westbound on 15th Street. Griffin ran multiple stop signs and eventually ditched his vehicle, fleeing on foot, documents state.
