FORT MCCOY, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers visited Fort McCoy where Afghan refugees are temporarily on Wednesday.
According to a news release, Evers was briefed on operations, planning and medical processing by federal military personnel, as well as receive updates on Operation Allies Refuge, and meet with Afghan individuals already housed there.
Evers was joined by U.S. Northern Command GEn. Glen VanHerck and Maj. Gen. Paul Knapp, Adjutant General of the Wisconsin National Guard.
“Our allies from Afghanistan have a long road ahead of them,” Evers said in a statement, “and Wisconsin will continue to extend our support and assistance to these individuals who bravely contributed to our country’s efforts over the past two decades.”
A news release said the governor is coordinating and providing supplies of clothing, diapers and other personal items for the families and individuals residing at Fort McCOy.

GOP U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and a group of state legislators also visited Fort McCoy on Wednesday.
