JANESVILLE, Wis. — Rock County cut the ribbon on a brand-new resource center Thursday afternoon.
The new facility in Janesville was built to consolidate a variety of programs under one roof, including the Human Services Department and the Rock County Job Center.
The facility is named after Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, someone with roots in Janesville and a renowned African-American surgeon from the early 20th century. He’s known as one of the first doctors to perform a successful open-heart surgery in the country.
Local officials say the facility was much-needed.
“Our conditions assessment told us we had about $38 million worth of outdated equipment in our buildings, so we had a major investment in just infrastructure,” County director of facilities management Brent Sutherland said.
