MADISON, Wis. — The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County received a $20,000 grant Friday intended to help the organization connect students to the internet.
The grant, awarded by the AT&T Foundation, will support the organization’s after-school programs by funding access to high-speed internet, digital literacy resources, and computer programs useful for a variety of academic purposes.
“Our mission is to provide hope and opportunity for all the young people we serve, especially those who need us most,” Michael Johnson, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, said. “We know many of our youth face challenges having the digital resources they need to be successful in school. With this grant from the AT&T Foundation, we are excited to provide support to our youth who face digital divide barriers to academic success.”
As part of their work to support the local youth population, the Boys & Girls Club provides devices and internet access for free to students in need, helping them finish online school assignments with fewer barriers.
A spokesperson with The AT&T Foundation said the grant was part of the group’s efforts to connect more Americans to the internet while bridging the digital divide in the process.
