MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man was sentenced this week to five years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon after he shot at an ex-girlfriend’s car following an argument in 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin said.
A judge also sentenced Alexander Jefferson-Cooper, 29, to three years of supervised release.
Officials began investigating Jefferson-Cooper after an ex-girlfriend reported her vehicle had been shot on September 29, 2021, following an online argument with him, the justice department said in a news release. As part of the case, officers executed a search warrant on his home and found multiple guns, which he was not allowed to possess following multiple previous felony convictions.

Ballistics testing found one of the guns to be involved in the car shooting, the release said.
Jefferson-Cooper was previously sentenced in November to six months in jail in a state case.
