Authorities say three people were injured Monday in a crash near East Dubuque following an attempted traffic stop and a high-speed chase. 21 year old Joseph Oimoen of Barneveld was taken to Midwest Medical Center in Galena, while 21 year old Levi Brown also of Barneveld, and an unnamed male juvenile were taken to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriffâs Department, at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, Galena police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near South Main and Water streets in Galena. The vehicle âfled from the officer at a high rate of speed,â traveling down Water Street, north on Franklin Street and west on U.S. Highway 20. Galena police ended the pursuit but later received an iPhone crash detection alert from North Menominee Road just south of Route 5 West. Deputies learned the driver of the vehicle, Oimoen, failed to negotiate a left turn, âhit a mailbox, became airborne, struck a utility pole, rolled several times and came to rest in a driveway. Oimoen was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, illegal transportation of cannabis as a driver and driving under the influence of drugs.Â
