JANESVILLE, Wis. — MercyHealth spent part of Wednesday giving back to members of the community at their South clinic who need a little extra assistance.
The clinic hosted a giveaway yard sale, with items like kids clothes, school supplies and toys available to community members free of charge.
“This is just something that our partners and employees felt very strongly about and care very deeply about the work that we do here,” DeAnna Brown of MercyHealth said. “We just wanted to give back. It feels good and it’s the right thing to do.”
Donations came from medical residents in MercyHealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as Mercy South support staff members.
“Part of our goal and mission has always been to teach the residents a lot about our community and the needs that we have, and to have them be involved to those that we’re serving here at the clinic,” Brown said. “We decided to do this particular rummage giveaway sale so we could all work together as a community to identify what needs people may have and try to give back and fill those gaps.”
MercyHealth employees were happy to provide these resources directly to their community, rather than taking items to a donation center.
“If we took them to a donation center, sometimes there’s a charge then for the patients,” MercyHealth nurse Laurie Finke said. “We really wanted to give it at no cost to the community around us.”
