SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — A 16-year-old Sparta resident was killed in a rollover crash Thursday night.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the teen left the roadway near the intersection of County Hwy BC and Fairway Road in the Township of Sparta.
The vehicle rolled and came to rest in a shallow creek at the bottom of the embankment. Friends and family went looking for him when he did not arrive at his destination, authorities said. They found his vehicle at 10:50 p.m.
Upon arrival, EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
The teen, identified as “JD”, was an incoming junior at Sparta High School. The school district says they plan to provide additional support for other students.
“The Sparta Area School District would like to extend our deepest and sincerest condolences to JD’s family, friends, and all who knew him,” the district’s statement read. “As a District, we will be establishing a support plan that we will be sharing with families to assist students during this tragedy.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
