LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A nonprofit has reached a quarter-century milestone in its mission to save the Driftless region.
The Mississippi Valley Conservancy has now officially protected 25,000 acres from future development.
The nonprofit has both bought land and had land donated in its 25-year effort to preserve nature in the region.
The group’s executive director, Carol Abrahamzon, says their work helps secure the health of future generations.
“We want to continue to build these larger corridors of protected land,” Abrahamzon said. “Those corridors provide the places that our native plants and animals need to be in the time of climate change.”
The nonprofit offers events for community members to enjoy the protected lands. They’ll be hosting a family-friendly snowshoe hike Feb. 11 at the La Crosse River Conservancy.
