The Iowa Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction of a Dubuque man who stabbed a teenager during a 2019 altercation. The court filed its opinion Wednesday in the case of 43 year old Brett Gilden affirming an earlier finding by Iowa District Court Judge Monica Zrinyi Ackley, who in 2021 denied Gilden’s application for post-conviction relief. Gilden was convicted by a jury in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County in November 2019 of willful injury causing bodily injury, going armed with intent and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon in the April 2019 stabbing of then-19 year old Dustin McGonigle.
