MADISON, Wis. — A sexual assault case from more than 25 years ago has come to a close after a man was convicted and sentenced for sexually assaulting a teenager in 1994.
Joachim M. McKnight was sentenced Aug. 19 to 3 1/2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual assault earlier this month.
Attorney General Josh Kaul said the victim’s sexual assault kit was tested in 2018 as part of the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.
“The survivor in this case waited almost 25 years for her sexual assault kit to be tested and over 27 years for the conviction and sentencing of the defendant. Finally, justice has been delivered,” Kaul said.
Madison police investigated the case after the kit was tested by Sorenson Forensics and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory
McKnight’s conviction is the sixth to come from SAKI. He has seven prior felony convictions from Dane County.
