MADISON, Wis. — Local leaders met with the mayor and other visitors from Madison’s German sister city Thursday evening.
Madison hosted Freiburg, Germany, Mayor Martin Horn, two city councilmembers and a number of other local German officials to talk about sustainability, transportation and affordable housing efforts.
“The mayor and I share many priorities, and so it’s just been to interact with the delegation, to learn from them and to have them learn from what’s going on in Madison,” Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said.
After arriving Wednesday night, the German delegation spent Thursday touring a fleet facility and working with city staff. They will tour Olbrich Botanical Gardens and the Dane County Farmer’s Market before leaving on Saturday.
Madison and Freiburg have been sister cities for 34 years, Rhodes-Conway said.
Madison has eight other sister cities: Arcatao, El Salvador; Bahir Dar, Ethiopia; Camaguey, Cuba; Kanifing, The Gambia; Mantova, Italy; Obihiro, Japan; Tepatitlán, Mexico; and Vilnius, Lithuania.
