MADISON, Wis. — A Madison artist hoping to win $5,000 for their work unveiled a new sculpture Friday morning at a UScellular store on the city’s west side.
The cell phone provider is hosting an art competition between five artists, with the winner taking home the $5,000 prize.
Audifax unveiled the six-foot-by-six-foot sculpture, “Big Smile,” at the UScellular store on Junction Road. The artwork is designed to represent the city’s history and will be on display at Summerfest in Milwaukee as well as other locations in the Madison area — including at Brat Fest — over the summer.
The work was done by spray-painting freehand with the help of some cardboard.
“It doesn’t matter who you are; art changes lives,” Audifax said. “If you have a paintbrush in your hand, it doesn’t have to be beautiful but just that connection that we’re getting is so beautiful and important, and I would really want to spread that.”
People will be able to vote for their favorite artist beginning May 27.
As part of the event, UScellular also gave away 500 free Summerfest tickets.
